Indio, California
Located 26 miles east of Palm Springs, 70 miles east of Riverside and 125 miles east of Los Angeles, Indio is one of largest gateways to Joshua Tree National Park, where the Colorado and Mojave Deserts come together to form some fascinating geological displays.
Activities
Indio, know as the City of Festivals, is a community of culture and heritage, family values and fun. There's golf, tennis, shopping, fine dining, and glittering casino nightlife. Indio's major events attract more than a half-million visitors each year and also plays a huge role in the tourism industry for which the Coachella Valley is famous.

Indio is experiencing unprecedented growth and Indio real estate is expected to include 5,000 new single family homes and 1,000 apartment units by the year 2012. Indio’s city leaders and other locals are expanding city public services, including new recreation activities, commercial retail centers, and industrial complexes.
Community/Economy
Indio has been considered one of Southern California's most important agricultural regions, and once was responsible for a large percentage of the nation's date crop. However, with all the new real estate development, the date groves are being pushed more to the south of Indio. There are citrus groves and vegetable fields surrounding the city limits.

The town was laid out in 1894 by A.G. Tingman, a Southern Pacific Railroad construction boss. Indio was chosen as a railroad stop because it was the halfway point between Los Angeles and Yuma, Arizona.

Indio (municipal) Golf Club is the second longest par-3 executive course in the USA. Until recently it was the only night lighted golf course in the Palm Springs area, but the city recently removed the lights to save energy.
